Spiritual Meaning of a Rabbit

Last night on my way home from driving to a dear friend’s 40th birthday party, a rabbit crossed my path. I knew that there was meaning in this, so I looked up the meaning at http://www.crystalinks.com/totemanimals.html
This is what it had to say:
“Rabbit: fear, timidity, nervousness, humility
Rabbit's medicine includes moving through fear, living by one's own wits, receiving hidden teachings and intuitive messages, quick thinking, strengthening intuition, and paradox. Rabbit also represents humility, because he is quiet and soft and not self-asserting. Rabbit reminds us not to be afraid. Fearful thoughts reproduce (like rabbits) and bring the very thing we fear. Rabbit people are so afraid of tragedy, illness, and disaster, that they call those very fears to them to teach them lessons. If you see Rabbit or in any way feel attracted to him, it may be telling you to wait for the forces of the universe to start moving again, to stop worrying and to get rid of your fears. It always indicates a need to re-evaluate the process you are undergoing, to rid yourself of any negative feelings or barriers, and to be more humble.”

This was a very timely message for me as I had been thinking and expressing some fears earlier that day which had caused me to self-sabotage. It was interesting too, as I had just finished listening to a video clip with Janet Attwood who had suggestions for Three Top Things to do to Love Your Life More.

1. Meditate – by meditating, greater creativity comes in
2. Passion – get more clear about what you are passionate about right now. We are all powerful. No one has an edge on being powerful.
3. False belief, ideas and concepts – Those are the things we repeat to ourselves: “I’m not good enough, smart enough, pretty enough, etc.” These are all false beliefs and she suggested to do “The Work” of Byron Katie who asks four questions:
1. Is it true?
2. Can you absolutely know it is true?
3. How do you react when you attach to that thought?
4. Who would you be without that thought and then turn that thought around.

Obviously, I need to focus on #3 “The Work”! Thank you Great Spirit for giving me the sign I needed to reinforce this. I am blessed beyond my wildest dreams and I thank you for the gentle nudges you give to me to do the work that I need to do.
In gratitude,
Susanne

  2. I saw a rabbit in the middle of the back yard of a house I am considering renting. I live a few miles from this rental in the woods, but have never seen a rabbit here among all the other mountain wildlife. I am a scientist with a strong intuitive side, so I wonder what the rabbit means for me. I study deep psychology and shamanism because I now believe that as humans we must stay in touch with our deep intuitive selves as people did since the dawn of humanity. It's as human as eating, breathing, sleeping and so on.
What does the rabbit tell me? I'm wondering...
    Thanks for sharing your experience.

  5. I live in an urban area. Yesterday after getting word my mom was at the ICU at a hospital not far away after undergoing a massive stroke, I rush out to my car to get to the hospital. I saw a rabbit under my car. It hopped into the street and over to the other side. This is a major city and I have not seen a rabbit before anywhere near her. I knew this had a meaning. I'm still not sure what it means to me? I"m about to lose my mother. Is it telling me no to be afraid? Is it telling me she is scared? I hope it's the former.

  6. I have developed a difficult illness in the past year, and a few nights ago, prayed for an animal spirit guide to appear in my dreams. I had a strange dream that someone gave me two dead rabbits, and told me to take them home, cook them, and "they will nourish you." I was upset that they were dead, and when I woke up, thought that because of this, they must not be my guides, but why the dream when I prayed for an animal guide? Then reading your above explanation, it makes a lot of sense...

"Rabbit people are so afraid of tragedy, illness, and disaster, that they call those very fears to them to teach them lessons. If you see Rabbit or in any way feel attracted to him, it may be telling you to wait for the forces of the universe to start moving again, to stop worrying and to get rid of your fears. 8. Wow, thank you for this share! This helps me get a better picture of why a dead rabbit was left on our walkway yesterday morning. Crows (my spirit animal) were eating it. I'm allowing myself to have the deep wounds surface and move through me so I can release and live a healthier life. I went through another round of great doubt and insecurity this past weekend, and the rabbit showing up means a lot on so many different levels. In gratitude for reading your post...

  10. This is awesome, thank you. I'm a writer and have been having a lot of difficulty with a particular novel I've been trying to write for over a year. Today, going over some material, I was completely struck down and even reconsidering my passion for writing. While I was at work, I was taking out the trash behind our building. There's a small grassy area with pine trees next to the sidewalk I take to the trash bin. First I saw one rabbit staring at me, in front of me, before it ran off. Not even a minute later, a second rabbit appeared and sprinted off in front of me. I already started thinking about what this could mean. Then, on my way home as I was driving, I noticed a rabbit running around on a side street, clear across a small highway on which I was driving. Now I have a clearer understanding of what they were symbolizing, and I know now to let go of any of the negativity surrounding my thoughts towards writing. :)

  14. I have 2 lion head dwarf bunnies. I have lived in the same place for 2 years. I heard of a stray rabbit that my neighbor saw in my yard but I've never seen it. There is a lot going on right now in my life. I went outside to relax and a rabbit came on my deck. A beautiful rabbit, bigger than my dwarfs, didnt even flinch when I walked next to it. Reading this article put it this in perspective for me. Thank you..

  18. I am so shocked after reading this. I have been seeing rabbits for the past month-at the same time dealing with a lot of changes, and stress. I see them everyday as I was. I usually talk to my angels when i walk, and pray to Micheal Arc Angel, and aske them to help keep going and let me know through "signs"if everything will be ok. Just the other day, I had a terrible argument and was emtionally hurt by some people, kind of a deception type thing. I went for a walk and started talking to my angels, when I looked over on to the grass, ( i was on sidewalk, very busy area i live around), right there sitting and did not move was a rabbit. I even stood there and talked to it. It never ran, just sat there. Typically, when I see them, and like I said its been a lot lately--they run, this one did not, i carried on walking and praying. Thank you fr this page--I feel better in knowing there is a spiritual reason I have been seeing them, and prayers are not going 'un-heard". Im glad I was wise enough to come and find this page. Bless you all ~~

  19. I have been very stressed lately, worrying about a myriad of things in my life. As I worked in my home office today rabbits have crossed in front of the door numerous times. I have recently seen them all around my house from the front to the backyard. I was also shocked when I read the meaning of them as I knew it had to be significant!
I feel better and more positive about things (and I have been very productive in my work today).

  20. My family and I moved into a new neighborhood September of last year and I remember seeing a few bunnies in the fall but the past month or so I have seen several all over the neighborhood. Yesterday I went for a run and saw 3 or 4 in different spots of the neighborhood within the short 40 minutes I was out. Reading this post has given me a lot of comfort and happiness. We have had a lot of interesting experiences with our home, which is next to an active rock quarry and cemetery, and my two year old going through things that caused us to have a blessing and cleaning of the house etc. These bunnies have been a sign to me to continue to work on letting the fear go so I don't attract the vey things that were bothering our family. Amen!

  22. I find it interesting for myself-when i see these rabbits. It is usually, when I am walking and talking to my Angels, or praying, or something is bothering me. I know that I am blessed, and that is a spiritual sign that things are being looked after for me--stop worrying, you're on the right path, and everything is going to be okay. Who would have thought ,that rabbit ,brings so much joy and peace. Amen.
